Online education is increasing in popularity. An increasing number of universities, community colleges, high schools and other educational resources are offering more opportunities to participate in online education. Here are four advantages to getting an online education.

Convenience

Educational opportunities such as an online college offer students convenience. You get to decide when you take classes and where you are when you do your classwork. A class can be taken at 6:00 a.m. or 11:00 p.m. It can be done on a computer at home or a laptop at the beach.

Choices

Online learning broadens student’s choices when it comes to where they will pursue their education. There is no commute to a campus so it is possible to attend a school in another state or even a different country.

Economics

There is no longer the expense of living in a dormitory or commuting to and from a campus. Without a commute, you don’t have the expense of gas and a car. Incidental expenses such as meals while spending the day on campus are also not an issue for the online student. You can save money by getting an online education.

Work and Family

Taking classes online allows a student more time for work and family. It allows students to work full time and continue their education. Nontraditional students such as stay-at-home parents appreciate the benefit of being able to take classes at their convenience. It provides the opportunity to work around their children’s activities and family needs.

These are just four of the benefits that an online education can offer but there are many more!

Depending on where you live, there may be a perception that violence only happens in American schools or schools where there is a great deal of civil unrest. The statistics show that there has been a worldwide increase in school violence. It’s just that some countries keep better data than others.

U.S. Violence in Schools

The Center for Disease Control has kept good track of violence in U.S. schools. There is a shocking number of kids carrying guns, and the number of assaults or threats with weapons is serious, too. Since guns are easy to obtain in the United States, this may not seem so shocking. Actually, shock may not be nearly as prevalent as the question of how our children became so violent.

All the Reasons Why

Depending on who you’re talking to, the reasons for the increased violence in schools varies. There’s no doubt there’s truth in all the theories. Many will say that the lack of discipline in the schools is a factor while others blame it on unhealthy home environments. The facts show that boys are more violent than girls and that there is some indication that lower IQs can be a factor, too.

Many teachers believe that disruptive behavior and poor learning results, in early school years, are an indication of disruptive, and even violent behavior in later school years. There’s controversy in all the theories because no one wants to be saddled with the blame. The unfortunate fact is that worldwide, violence among students is up, and that means our children at risk of injury and a poor quality education.

It’s an assumption of protection: schools are thought to offer safety, to provide a haven for students. Too often does that haven prove to be weak, however. Children are teased mercilessly; violence occurs; and parents think themselves powerless to correct it.

This pattern is a tragic one — and it must be stopped.

Safety precautions must be formed. Accomplishing this requires action, however:

Determine Policies

Knowledge is far more than a series of words and percentages. It’s instead an understanding of the elements that shape a school. Parents must demand access to the policies of their educational systems: learning what protocols have been put in place and what issues must subsequently be addressed. This is essential in devising a safety plan; all strengths and weaknesses must first be known.

Demand Statistics

Too often do parents think themselves unheard: their concerns ignored, their worries unheeded. School representatives offer bland assurances and little else, which sparks a need for change. Statistics must then be demanded. Individuals must seek out information regarding violence reports, accidents and more. This is the only way to verify whether safety has been earned.

Discuss Involvement

Education doesn’t rely on singular sources. It instead requires a vast collection of instructors, books and presentations. Safety is the same — needing involvement from all parents to be achieved. It’s imperative therefore that individuals discuss what can be accomplished: noting programs that need chaperones, after-school classes and more. A parental influence will have an immediate effect.

Safety is the right of all students. It must be fought for, though; and all parents must become part of the solution, rather than avoiding the problem.

Parents who send their children to public or private schools may have ever-growing concerns about the safety of their offspring.

With multiple crises over the past few years involving students, the threat seems higher to many parents. Without being able to keep a constant eye on their children, some are worried about the teaching staff or fellow students. However, many schools are now enacting plans for crisis management and response in case something goes awry during the day.

As part of a response to growing school safety concerns, members of the United States Senate drafted six bills that provide improvements and requirements to protect students in public schools. This offers a sense of community across the schools in different cities and states, and provides similar funding to enact these security measures. Many campuses now have more improved security and emergency response systems to protect those who are enrolled. Keeping students enrolled in schools protected from danger is crucial in making sure the educational experience is enjoyable. If someone thinks “I want to earn my degree,” personal safety shouldn’t be a factor against that.

Employees at any level of education should be trained in how to respond if such an event were to occur, and how to discipline those responsible. Many schools have a zero tolerance policy—the first time a student threatens the safety of others, that student is removed without question. Enacting measures to remove any chance of danger is one way to prevent a crisis, and those who know that their administrators are serious about safety might think twice before threatening other students.

Yorkie puppies are not your average dog. In fact, they are small, however they all think that they are really big. These dogs are quite smart, demanding, loyal as well as are not afraid of anything. This is the reason why a lot of Yorkie owners have to know how to properly train their Yorkie puppies.

In order to train your Yorkie puppy correctly it is necessary for you to have such qualities as patience and persistence. If you manage to take advantage of these qualities, then you will have all chances to turn your Yorkie puppy from an unruly dog into a loyal companion.

- First of all, before you start training your puppy, it is necessary to determine the personality of your Yorkie. There is no doubt that these dogs are quite smart and could learn quickly, however they could reject learning. And your task is to understand the personality of your puppy and act accordingly.

- All Yorkie puppies could seem as active children and thus you cannot have a lot of distraction around you. Remember that there should not be any animals or people around when you are training your puppy. All the commands have to be made in a clear, consistent and strong tone.

- As well treats are extremely important since Yorkie puppies like to have treats. You need to have treats near the face of you puppy, give the command and only then give them the treat and praise when the command is accomplished correctly.

- Praise is quite important while training the puppy, especially it is true when it comes to Yorkie puppies. You have to give them a lot of praise when they do something correctly. Remember that negative reinforcement does not work with this breed.

Quite often, when a dog is not correctly trained, it is not the fault of the dog, but rather that of the dog owner. Yorkie puppies have a lot of energy and if you are not consistent, they will not learn.

Nowadays there has been a rapid increase in the number of cases related to violence against women and it’s more shocking that women are in threats and dangers in their homes with their own family. Earlier the “home” was regarded as the place where the women could feel secure and safe, but now the scenario has changed drastically. Women are treated badly even in their homes and they have been victimized both psychologically and physically. Our Government claims that each individual has equal rights, but the benefits of these rights are not given to most of the women. Their lives are swindled and they have been treated as jinx for their family.

The violence can occur in any form like dowry, sexual abuse, forced prostitution etc. Violence against women is the heinous offence and the women of non developed countries are more prone to it. The root cause of the increase in the violence against women is the lack of awareness and inadequate education. Honor killing has also played a crucial role in the growth of the violence against women. Child marriages and forced marriages violate the rights of women and as a consequence of which it is also treated as a mean of violence. They are more common in Middle East Asia and Africa.

Therefore there is a need to eradicate this social evil and to promote the measures which can be beneficial in order to prevent the violence against women. The foremost step is to create awareness so that women may come to know about their fundamental rights. Other steps should also be taken both by the Governmental and Non Governmental agencies and hopefully will have the desired effect.

School threat is regarded as the gray area between the students and teachers and as a result of which the management find them stuck in the tightrope. Management always takes emotional decision, when a student faces a threat although the root cause of the threat is never considered by the authority. But, actually this is the time when the management needs to take some cognitive measures to eradicate this thread. In the last few years, National School Security Services have tracked an incredible increase in the threats resulting in the massive decrease in the attendance of students.

Nowadays, it is ragging which is the major cause of depression and fear amongst the students. Ragging is a practice, mostly in higher educational institutions like colleges, universities that involve the act of bullying the new students or juniors by their senior students. Quite often, it is transformed into a destructive approach which subjects to physical and psychological torture to the interns. Since 2001, Ragging is regarded as the major threat to the students and to depreciate this number various laws have been made by Government. But even now these laws have not been implemented effectively both due to management of the educational institutions as well as some students don’t want to reveal this act publically.

Hazing is the term which is most commonly used to describe the harassment, abuse to provoke a student in a group. However the major reason of arising all these threats has not yet been fully discovered mainly due to the secretive nature of these activities especially in the colleges and sororities. These all activities are considered as the criminal offence and a person involved with it should be prosecuted.

Teachers and stress should never converge in education. There should be a fair discrepancy between the two, otherwise the sole aim of teacher i.e. to provide knowledge to their students will not be meeting. There are various reasons why it is preferred that the blend of two should be avoided. In the working atmosphere it is a teacher only who feels more stressed out, even more than the students. Stress can lead to emotional instability in teachers, because whenever they are stressed out most of the teachers often feel angry and irritated. As a teacher if you allow all these instabilities overshadow your temperament, then it can result in a bad lecture leading to the exiguous classroom environment. This can even increase the chances, that you might be fired for ill behaving with your students.

Stress is the bodily reaction and as a consequence of which, it can even lead to the health deterioration. Thus if a person is stressed out, body pains are the common symptoms. In worst case it can even lead to the death of an individual, hence as a teacher you must take precautionary measures to prevent yourself from such complicated scenario. A sudden rise in stress can cause a simultaneous increase in blood pressure. As a result of which you may feel tired out and you may not be able to involve yourself with your lectures as actively as before.

Stress can lead to the high level of anxiety which can seriously increase the intensity level of complications. Thus, it is advisable that the Teachers and stress must never be mixed and as a teacher try to find out some measures to battle with these problems.

The most aggressive, progressive, inspired, articulate and dynamic section of a country is the student’s group. The productive interval of one’s life i.e. student life should utilized effectively and judicially. The efficacious utilization of the student’s community can do wonders in the development of a country. This period of life prepares an individual to face the challenges that he/she may face in the upcoming years. Students, who want to join politics as their profession, should be good leaders and they must be able to express their views and thoughts by shedding their shyness. They must be assertive and confident enough to develop a career in politics.

Moreover, Politics cannot be isolated from the student’s life, as this field demands the active participation of students in the form of student’s union and student’s association. Political Science is characterized as the crucial part of curriculum both in schools as well as in colleges. This presents the role of politics on the student’s life. History reveals the fact that the participation of student’s has played a vital role in growth of politics in the developed countries. However it completely depends on the members of political parties whether they utilize this participation in the constructive or destructive manner.

Politics provide a platform to students to implement all the knowledge of their learning, practically and contribute healthy hand in the development of a country. Politics make students better organizers as well as administrators. The support of the students in a country is like a brook which needs to be channelized. However, there should be a limit in regards to the involvement of students in politics so that they don’t forget their ultimate aim i.e. to study.

All institutions, which have the responsibility to provide learning to the interns, do have the basic safety plan. So it’s your foremost function to get habitual with the plan so that proper measures can be executed at the time of an injury. A safe environment is essential to provide the effective education. There is no project which can be more important than providing a safe learning environment to the interns of a country. Among the people of all age groups, children or youth of a country are more vulnerable in case of any accident or natural calamity. There are enormous numbers of schools erected in the urban areas that have been confined to limited acres of lands and therefore they are more prone to various hazards.

In the school or any other education institute, there are distinctive areas that demand the proper attention in order to provide safety to the students. There are tremendous measures that can be executed in regard to the school safety. The first and the fundamental method are to place the subject of safety in the agenda of education program. In other words, school safety must be considered as the part of our education program. In this context, the management should develop a School Safety Plan to make arrangement for the protected and well preserved environment for the students.

School Safety is an important and crucial factor and by no stretch of imagination the management can neglect this. Each school of the country must develop its own disaster management organizations to promote the activities related to disaster management. Since it is impossible to prevent the occurrence of any human tragedies or catastrophic events but we can reduce their pernicious effects by developing a layout to deal with all these lethal entities. Proper provisions must be taken in favor of school safety, by the management to overcome these effects.

It is a well known fact that “knowledge is the power”. The education plays a vital role, especially in the developing countries, to eradicate poverty and bring out the social changes which are beneficial for the social welfare. Education can be considered as a ladder which you can use in order to get rid of ignorance, poverty and oppression. The children as well as youth of a country need to be provided with the proper and adequate knowledge so that they can lead a comfortable life and have a safe future.

Studies have shown that countries with effective and productive educational system are more prosperous as compared to the others. Like food, water and shelter education is also considered as the basic entity of life. As food and shelter is vital for health and body respectively, likewise education is essential for the development of your mind. Education is all about putting your potentials effectively and makes the best out of it. Education enables an individual to be a right thinker, it tells when, where and how to make a decision that will be favorable for you. As the ultimate aim of education is towards the development of an individual, such development should gradually transform towards the development of society.

Education is characterized as the only aspect that can unite a country and its people as a developed nation. So if a nation is willing to progress towards the path of glory and success, then it is essential to implement an efficacious educational system. It is education only that can assist you in developing and promoting good habits, awareness among other atrocious existences like terrorism, diseases and corruption. There are various means of providing education; technology with the blend of mass media has proved a better and effective option in this aspect. It is education only reinforces the strength of an individual.

Working parents often find themselves lacking the time to get involved with their children’s education. However, there are a large number of working mothers who do manage to take out the time for their child’s progress in school. Those parents who get involved can actually help their children perform better at school.

Benefits of Parents’ Involvement

It has been observed that when parents get involved with their children’s education it results in better grades, improved social skills, less absenteeism, assured graduation from high school and admission into a good college on behalf of the children.

Often responsibilities at work do not allow parents to get involved in this manner. What is essential is a balance between work and their children.

How Working Parents Can Work Out a Solution

Parents should check the child’s school bag, diary, books and other items to keep abreast with what the child is learning everyday. They must also talk to the child about daily happenings at school. If direct involvement in school parties is not possible, send something to make your child feel you are interested. Try and spend at least some time together each evening reading a book and talking about it or about other subjects. Keep a track of their homework, at the end of each day. Lastly, instead of the television ruling the ‘together time’, let it be spent in more productive activities.

Involvement in School Activities

Parents must make it a point to attend Parent-Teacher meetings, annual school functions, debates, conferences and concerts that may take place in the child’s school. These are great ways of interacting with the teachers and making your child feel you care.

Conclusion

Most busy parents find it difficult to balance family life with work. However, taking out time for one’s children and their education should be a priority in the agenda.

It is important to understand the risks that students might be exposed to while studying at school campuses. School safety is not just the onus of teachers, and parents. It is the priority of all people. School safety is a very frightening word. A school is most often than not seen as a harmless place. But words like school safety and student risk management give it other connotations.

If you are a parent who would like to ensure maximum school safety for your child, then you have to take the following checklist with you the next time you go to meet your child’s teachers. You can also invite other parents to take part in this exercise. Or you can even sit down with your child and your child’s friends to make the checklist. Here’s how your checklist should go…

1) Ask the school, how they prioritize school safety. Is it the first position, second position or which position?

2) Does the school have processes for disaster management?

3) Does the school keep a track of all the unsafe incidents that have taken place at the school? Do they have analytic reports on the same?

4) Does the school have prevention and cure plan? Do they have measures to prevent a catastrophe as well as come out of it?

5) Check the school’s safety list. What do they place as unsafe? Do they factor-in all the possibilities of danger or is it not a comprehensive safety list?

6) Do they have special point of contact or an office for emergencies? Does the school have specialized and trained personnel to deal with emergency situations?

7) Does the school provide counseling help for violent students?

Have they any certification to ascertain themselves as a safe education provider?

These are some of the checklist items that parents can have at PTO meetings. Some of these might help schools to understand what they are lacking in.

In countries like Japan, Earthquakes are frequent. Japan introduced Earthquake proof standards for buildings. The Japanese government is now actively promoting Earthquake resistant buildings for schools. A lot of catastrophic events have happened in Japan. 1995’s Hanshin-Awaji is one of them. During the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake incident school buildings were destroyed. This was at a time when there were no Earthquake proof standards for buildings.

Following this event, a law was introduced by the Japanese government to make a standard for buildings to be Earthquake resistant. Another law was passed to promote research and development in this area. It also made provisions for inducting funds from external sources for supplementing the development of the Earthquake proof building technology.

In countries like Japan such developments are taking place. It is time for other countries to follow this approach as well. Talking about school safety, an important aspect of it is also the buildings that students use. By making Earthquake resistance buildings, a potential catastrophe can be avoided.

Earthquake resistant school buildings can be made by retrofitting buildings using diagonally crossed braces, and flexible pipes. Studies show that the focus of Earthquake proofing buildings should be to concentrate on the sideways movement of the building. Most buildings during an Earthquake tend to sway sideways. By blocking this movement a potential building collapse could be avoided.

There is also a theory be scientists who have discovered vertical movements of a building under an Earthquake. All these movements come down to how the structure of the building is reinforced. The way the columns and beams of the building are designed is the way it makes the building behaves.

A new research suggests the partitioning of the building from the landmass with another cushioning interface material. By doing this the building is not affected by the seismic waves generated from the Earth, since most of it is absorbed by the cushioning interface.

Phenomena such as gentrification and white flight have made it difficult for some schools to offer their students educations that properly prepare them for college or careers. The negative effects of gentrification and white flight, however, can often be countered with reliable property management.

How Gentrification Affects Schools

Gentrification often occurs when professionals move into a poor area of town. These individuals and young families are attracted to low housing prices in poorer areas. Over time, though, they begin to make more money in their careers. Instead of leaving the neighborhood, the professionals spend money fixing up their homes and attracting new stores.

This sounds like a good thing for the neighborhood, but it can have some negative consequences. Gentrification often occurs on select streets or sides of a neighborhood. Over time, the neighborhood becomes divided in half. School systems suffer when this happens because the wealthier side of the neighborhood pays more property tax that support good schools. This takes away resources from the poorer side, thus making the schools less effective for students and the area’s educational system as a whole.

How White Flight Affects Schools

White flight has a more direct negative effect on schools. White flight is a phenomenon that involves affluent white families moving to suburbs. This often leaves behind empty houses that soon turn into slums. As the area becomes more depressed by poor housing standards and low property taxes, the schools start to suffer. Since they cannot afford to hire the best teachers or purchase equipment for classes, the schools cannot provide good educational opportunities to their students.

Preventing Inequalities with Planned Property Management

Property is at the heart of these problems. A reliable Mesa property management company can help ensure that buildings and properties remain in good condition. This prevents the area from slipping into a localized depression that negatively affects schools. Charter schools and larger variety within school programs are other options used by some systems.

It is one of the most unfortunate incidents that can happen in schools. It’s such a scary feeling to be in the middle of a shootout at school. It helps to have some information on how to react in such situations.

1 When in suspicion, be alert

When you are suspicious about a student’s movements, you have to stay alert. Take the help of some seniors and ask them to intervene without mentioning your name. By doing this a possible danger could be averted. If a student is bringing explosive materials or sharp objects to school, then this is an indication of a possible danger. If a student is practicing shooting at other students, even this could be reported. Such behavior is not appropriate in a school environment.

2 Schools might have procedures for this. Ask your teachers.

Schools will definitely have procedures for disaster management and emergencies. Ask your teachers to produce such documents. You can take note of what to do in case a school shootout happens. There could be some rooms where you might take refuge along with others. There could be secret exits, or even emergency exits that allow students to free themselves from the school premises as quickly as possible.

3 Always be alert

When you hear commotion in the distance, don’t be sitting down. Get up and see what it is. If you see the gun-wielding assassin in the distance, try to run away from the person. Do not try to become a hero by confronting this person unless you can trap this person without any harm to yourself or others. If you find a safe exit, let others know of this as well.

4 Don’t be in groups

Don’t be in groups. The more you spread out, the more your chances of getting saved from the bullets. Groups will create more target-space for the shooter. Try to avoid this as far as possible.

Playgrounds are places where a lot of injury can happen to students. Game activities provide a lot of relief and recreation to students. Without such facilities students will get bored and easily slip themselves into mediocrity. But while playgrounds provide an important activity for the overall development of the kid, they also need to be safe. You might have seen or heard about students hurting themselves while playing at school. Some of them might have broken their arms, or slipped and fallen down. These things will happen, but playground design can prevent this.

So what is playground design? Playground design in simple words is to design playgrounds so that they offer safe recreation and other physical activities to students. Playgrounds can be separated into distinct areas, where each area could be assigned to be used for a particular age group. For example, a playground for students between the age of 8 and fifteen need not have high parallel bars. Students can risk themselves to serious falls.

Grounds that are used to play hard sports like soccer can have short grass. Barren grounds are not advisable, as it not only risks the students to injuries, but is also not hygienic. A playground should have a supervisor who overlooks the activities of the students. This is particularly helpful in preventing unwanted injuries to kids playing on playgrounds.

Swimming pools are also part of physical instruction in some schools. Swimming pools must need the constant vigilance of swimming instructors. Students might get adventurous in swimming pools. In their creative comedies they might mock-drown other students. What was intended as a joke can take a serious turn. All this can be avoided by constant vigilance at areas where school students play.

A playground is an important aspect of the development of child’s personality. All students need to play at some point. Agreed some students might not take to playing, but they can equally be good at other non-physical activities.

So many massacres in schools have left teachers and parents dumbfounded. Schools previously considered a safe haven for children is now becoming a dangerous place. Parents, teachers and people in general are wondering on the solutions to the problems of student violence. How can student violence be prevented?

Adolescents commit a lot of murders. Most of it due to lack of understand of circumstances following such a drastic action, and off course raging hormones. In the United States alone, every year close to four thousand murders are being done by students studying in schools.

Murders in school are mostly done by students who have been cast away as failures in school. They are such students who would have been humiliated at school. Unable to withstand the humiliation of being an outcast at school they vent out their angst and anger by turning to violence.

So what to do to prevent such acts? Prevention is better than cure. Preventing such incidents will require early recognition of violence in students. If a student with such violent symptoms is found, steps can be taken to dissolve such acts through rehabilitation.

There are other harsh prevention methods like sending the student to prison or putting the student through community service punishments. Incarceration will subdue the student’s violent behavior. As the student turns sober in an incarcerated atmosphere, wisdom will also prevail.

The only way to change a violent student completely would be to change the way this student thinks and acts. A great deal of change can be induced if the atmosphere of this student is made as peaceful as possible. Stimulants to violence can be done away with. By doing this the student will slowly start looking inwards rather than outwards. This is the only path to real self-change.

Schools should have specific educational programs that concentrate on things like behavior, personality amongst other things. No threat should be taken lightly. Violent students can be the most merciless.

Students are always eager to learn. Since most of them are at an age when they are naturally curious about learning, it becomes easier for teachers to motivate them. Teachers have a greater role than teaching students. They should also motivate the students to do things that they are good at. A teacher is like a parent to students at school, in that they are responsible for instilling values in students.

There is no formulaic approach to motivating or inspiring students. IF there was one, then most students would have been motivated to pursue their dreams. There are plenty of things that influence a student’s ability to assimilate and learn. Even motivation is induced by a variety of factors. These factors may be internal, external or both. Motivation in students is nothing but the desire to excel in academics, or extra-curricular activities. It is also the burning desire to achieve excellence at a young age. Motivation is also the inclination to know more about the subject and devote more time to learning a subject. Motivated students show remarkable qualities of self-confidence, self-esteem, patience.

So what can teachers do to motivate students?

1 Give positive feedback about a student’s ability

By giving positive feedback about a student’s ability to the student, motivation can be seeded in this student. The student will be convinced about this unique ability and go all the way to pursue excellence in it.

2 Always make the students succeed

Inculcate a step-by-step approach to educating students. Don’t give assignments that are very easy to do or extremely difficult. Make the student feel successful after a completed assignment, and deservedly so.

3 Make things relevant to the student

When studying something, the student might not find personal relevance to the subject. The teacher can try to map aspects of this subject to how it may affect the student’s present or future life. This will enable the student to find purpose in any activity.

Tropical and sub-tropical regions are prone to thunderstorms on a daily basis. However, during hot summers, people living in moderate climates can experience them too. Whatever be the frequency or geographical location of the storms, one must be prepared for them and know what safety measures to take in case lightning or thunder strike.

How to Stay Prepared for Storm at Home

In order to be prepared for severe weather conditions, home owners should ensure some important items are close at hand. An NOAA weather radio that can sound an alarm in case of a storm must be kept at home. The push of a button can send a warning signal to residents and other residents of an area. It is also imperative to ensure a fully charged mobile phone is always at hand. It may be the only form of communication in the case of a disaster. A storm kit should be kept ready at all times by people living in such areas. Ideally, such a kit should include non-perishable food stuff, medicines, food for pets, batteries, torches, first aid material and any other essentials.

What to Do During a Thunderstorm and Lightning

To avoid injury or damage from thunderstorms and lightning, residents should bear several safety measures in mind. To avoid damage from lightning, all appliances must be unplugged. Cars should be moved into the safety of garages, or at least not be parked under trees. Electricity can travel through water, and therefore people must stay away from water and pipes during lightning. The telephone must not be used, since the wires could be struck by lightning. During a major thunderstorm, it is safer to remain in an inner room, and stay away from windows.

Conclusion

Being cautious is always better than being sorry. A few steps of preparedness can save lives and evade harm to people as well as homes.

Watching a storm, under proper guidance, can be a unique experience for children and adults. While it helps them learn about the natural disaster, it also enables them to overcome the fear they may feel during one.

Could Formation on a Spring Day

In storm-prone areas, watch as large white clouds form in the sky. If these clouds continue to rise high, and appear as though piling on top of one another, it is an indication of a storm. When warm air rises rapidly on a warm summer day, it forms moisture in the air. This results in the formation of such cumulonimbus clouds.

As you observe the clouds, you will notice that none of them remain the same. They keep changing shape.

What are Cumulonimbus Clouds?

Cumulonimbus clouds are large white clouds that look like cauliflowers. They are fluffy and light to look at. Cumulonimbus Calvus clouds moving upward form the Pileus cloud on top. When the clouds move rapidly and catch up with this Pileus cloud, it is an indication of a storm.

Indications of Lightning and Thunder

When negative and positive charges in clouds get developed, lightning is the result. The positive charge in ice crystals inside the clouds makes them rise upward, whereas the negative charge in water droplets inside the clouds makes them sink inward. The working of the opposite charges causes lightning to strike through the cloud and towards the ground. Thunder is caused when the air surrounding the lightning bolt heats up, expands and then rapidly contracts. The time between the lightning and thunder can help calculate how far away the storm is.

Safety during Storms

A storm should always be observed from a safe place inside, not under a tree. Observing cloud formation is helpful in detecting a storm. Noting down information and taking pictures can be useful.

Schools have witnessed a decrease in the deaths caused by violence, with the rise in school safety programs. No longer considered safe places, schools are often experiencing bouts of violence by students, insinuated by media coverage.

Preventing School Violence

The enforcement of law and order in schools and steps taken by school authorities have been the main reason for the decrease in the rate of school violence across American public schools. The contribution of parents, teachers, activists and the community has been a major influencing factor as well. The formation of Prevention Coalitions, Safety Advisory Boards, Internet Safety Crime Units, various forums for discussions and interaction with experts have all been helpful in reducing violence in schools.

Tip Lines for Stopping Teenage Crime

To protect teenagers from getting involved in violence and crime organizations, twenty four hour tip lines have been established. School shootings have been the main cause of the formation of these tip lines. ‘Speak Out’ is one such tip line that covers six counties in Florida.

Children Who Witness School Shootings

Those children who have the misfortune of witnessing school violence, especially school shootings, are left with an impact they feel for their lifetime. They may now be grown up with children of their own, but that incident would be an unpleasant memory forever, for them.

Conclusion

School authorities are responsible for taking adequate measures to ensure violence in school does not occur, or is at least reduced to a minimum. Appropriate counseling, creation of prevention cells and guidance by teachers and experts must be advocated at regular intervals. Schools should also cater for therapy for those children who have witnessed school shootings and thereby undergone severe trauma. The advent of the cell phone culture can be a boon in such scenarios. With all other possible means of communication not reachable, students can report crime by making a call to their parents.

With a view to prevent youth violence and authorize the youth themselves to speak up against crime, the National Safe Schools Week is organized from October 19-25. Supported by organizations dealing with child protection, those involved in security for schools and several others, the campaign aims at creating awareness about this important issue.

This campaign has been encourages by the growing rate of violence in American schools. It has largely been felt that students need to be protected even in the safe environment of a place of learning.

Preventing Violence at School

Various studies have revealed that prior to a shooting the student has stated his intention. This implies that the crime committed could have been prevented. Therapy at school, extra vigil by the teachers and school authorities, and the availability of a help forum could be the possible methods of prevention.

Events and Activities at the Safe Schools Week

The campaign has a website that offers a wide range of ideas for activities and events that schools can host to encourage prevention of violence among youth. These activities aim to create awareness about the perils of carrying weapons, getting into fights and other forms of violence.

The website also provides downloadable guides and activity sheets that teachers and school authorities can use in their school. Depending on the time and resources that a particular school has, these activities can be simple or complex.

Students can be asked to get involved in creative ways, such as to write essays, draw sketches or make up songs on the threats posed by school violence.

Conclusion

Violence at school can be a frightening experience for many students. It can even a have severe psychological impact on many small children. On the other hand, it can inculcate the culture of violence in many others. If not curbed at the beginning, school violence can have some serious consequences.

Violence against teachers affects not only them but even the students who witness the threats.

Expensive Threats

Teachers face threats from students every year. Such threats are expensive and the costs include lost wages and days of work. Teachers who quit the job need to be replaced by new ones. The school has to carry on student disciplinary proceedings.

When parents and the school management does not offer enough support to teachers, then they tend to leave. In some schools, poor environment can make the teachers quit their jobs. Adding to these reasons is violence from students.

Place Where Violence Takes Place

Students resort to violence against teachers in cities, suburbs, secondary and elementary schools. Teachers are attacked irrespective of their gender.

Classroom Management

Teachers who are good at handling students in classrooms do not face any threats. According o the American Psychological Association, the following tips help in decreasing the threat of violence.

Classroom rules need to be made clear

Teachers should let their students know that they care for them

Students need to be given plenty of opportunities to make choices

It’s important to keep a sharp eye on students and become check for any changes in their moods

Emphasize on problem solving and managing anger

Jumping to immediate conclusions need to be avoided

Causes for Violence against Teachers

The chances of violence are high when a student is not in proper terms with the teacher. The other reasons are academic and financial stress, sexual abuse, lack of sleep, habitual indulgence in gang conflicts, parent divorce, death of a beloved one such as friend or family member, break ups, unrest due to constant fights taking place in family.

Conclusion

It’s possible to decrease the number of violence threats, if the teacher stays cautious and notices any kind of warning signs.

Teachers face numerous threats from students in the form of constant classroom interruption, physical violence, verbal abuse etc. Apart from school teachers, young workers and school staff are also affected.

Survey Taken in Ontario Secondary School

According to a survey published in the Ontario Secondary School Teacher’s Federation, almost thirty eight percent of the teachers were victims of violence. The teachers belonging to rural areas are more affected than the one ones from urban region.

From the survey taken, it was found out that 82% of teachers faced interruptions in classroom and violent behavior from students. Some of them were physically assaulted and the personal belongings of few were stolen.

Bullying on the Internet

There are teachers who become victims of cyber bullying. Criticisms are made on the physical appearance of the teachers. Threats in the form of physical harm are also posted on the internet, which ultimately forces teachers to quit their jobs.

YouTube Videos

YouTube videos on a Maryland teacher being attacked were posted on the internet. The teacher was attacked because she asked a female student to sit down and behave properly. Such brutal attacks happened many a times in the school where she was working, but no action was taken. Thus, teachers do not how to handle such a situation.

Issues Faced by Teachers

During 2—6, BBC published a report 4 out of 10 teachers in Britain were either verbally or physically harmed by the students ‘parents.

Even in China, teachers face the brutal behavior of violent students.

Conclusion

Students cause verbal as well physical harm not only to other students but also to teachers. This is becoming a major issue and it’s difficult to find a solution for this.

Teachers, school management, parents and politicians need to work together and find a solution for stopping students’ violent behavior. It’s imperative for parents to teach their children how to respect others.

It has been found out that the rate of bullying is higher in the United States than any other country. The reason for this has not been established. Schools are paying more attention to this nowadays. Numerous schools have introduced anti-bullying programs and others are following the same.

Children Need Help

A child who has a circle of friends receives both social as well as psychological support. Since such kids belong to a group, they do not get bullied that often. On the other hand, those children who are victims of bullying do not enjoy such support.

Teacher can pair victims of bullying with those who are kind. Children with common interests can get together. Developing talents help children build their confidence.

Participating in scouts and other activities helps children to make friends, based on accomplishments rather than appearance. Children can approach adults in case they are bullied.

Children need to stay in a safe environment at home. Parents should be easily available when their children need them the most. This makes children feel safe. Parents need to listen well and act accordingly rather than over reacting in such situations.

Children are Different

Certain kids need extra attention. Poor social skills, disabilities in learning, hyperactivity, medical or emotional problems are issues that parents have to deal with few kids.

Kids with severe issues undergo counseling sessions. Those who have less severe problems should also learn how to behave in an appropriate way. This will prevent them from facing severe issues in the near future.

Anti-Bullying Programs

Ongoing anti-bullying programs need to be instituted in elementary as well as middle schools. If such programs do not exist in some schools, then parents should take the initiative to address it in parents-teachers meetings. Making anti-bullying programs an integral part of the core curriculum is mandatory.

Schools usually conduct activities or events based on what they feel are important. Say, for instance, grades or student behavior may the most important topic for discussion. Parents need a valid reason to attend school events. Attending such events needs to be beneficial to the parents. Certain events are not useful to parents and hence they avoid their presence there.

Encouraging Parents to Attend

To encourage parents’ participation in meetings and conferences, children should invite them personally. Schools should also take the initiative for inviting parents. Making a personal connection with parents is important and mass-calling needs to be avoided. Parents need to feel welcome and comfortable when they step into the school premises. Even though parents and teachers are concerned about the students, parents will attend meetings only when they are given proper attention.

Meeting the Needs of Parents

Emphasizing on the grades and behavior of students will not encourage parents to attend any event. Interaction with parents needs to be more social. If school teachers want to discuss the children grades and behavior, then it should be scheduled accordingly. A car show or craft fair can be included, so that parents feel more encouraged.

Making Connections

One effective strategy that schools adopt is providing food to parents in events. This cannot be considered as the main reason for encouraging parents to attend events. Food just forms a basis on which parents, students and teachers can interact in an informal way. It’s imperative to spend enough time with parents, so that proper conversation can be made. Schools can create a positive and warm environment by displaying the projects done by students.

Conclusion

Schools need ample time to create a more useful environment for parents to participate. Parents wish to connect with other parents whom they know in a school campus. When parents are invited by someone they are familiar with, then they will surely attend.

Learning CPR and first aid is an essential skill for all educators and administrators. Research tools such as Canada 411 can help you to identify organizations that offer this vital training in locations near you in Canada. When a student suffers a breathing, choking or burn emergency in your classroom, knowing CPR and first aid will help you to quickly assist him or her.

Knowing the Value of CPR

When you administer CPR on a student, you are essentially saving his or her life. CPR is a combination of cardiac massage and artificial breathing intended to help the suffering individual to resume normal respiration. A student might need CPR in a variety of situations; choking on a meal, drowning in a pool during an after-school activity or suffering from excessive smoke inhalation during a fire are all examples of incidents that might require your intervention. When you know CPR, you can jump right in and help to increase blood circulation and push the flow of oxygen throughout the student’s body. This is important for preventing brain damage and for saving the student’s life.

Learning First Aid Methods to Assist Students

When students suffer from cuts and scrapes, knowing first aid will help you to assist them. Properly treating a cut with the right ointments to prevent infection is one aspect of learning first aid. Knowing how to cover the wound to protect the area from germs and bacteria is another critical aspect. Treating burns is yet another component of first aid training.

Using Canada 411 to Locate a CPR and First Aid Class

Canada 411 is a useful tool for finding a CPR and first aid class in your area. Plug in the keywords “CPR” and “first aid” to locate centers offering this type of training. Visit the websites of the organizations to determine which ones offer training that fits into your schedule and location requirements.

Parents often assume that once their children move from an elementary level to middle school, their involvement in school activities are not required. But, the fact is that children need their parents’ involvement more than before. As children grow, they wish parents approve the choices made by them.

Middle School Not As Same As Elementary

Parents shouldn’t expect middle schools to invite them personally. Middle schools do not function the way elementary schools do. Most of the schools do not have any sort of formal programs that are meant for parental involvement. Parents need to take the initiative to find out ways in which they can participate in the school activities.

Involvement in Schools

Unlike elementary schools, children have more difficult curriculums in middle schools. Children eventually get used to this.

It’s important for parents to meet each of the child’s teachers. Finding out what the teachers expect from the students help parents to encourage their children in working towards the goals.

Being well aware of the school policies is a must, so that parents know what kind of outfits are restricted to be worn.

Keeping a sharp eye on the child’s records or progress every year helps the parents in a huge way.

Advantages of Involvement

Taking active participation in all the school activities and child’s education helps in improving grades. By getting involved where it is necessary, parents actually show that they give importance to their child’s education. Due to proper involvement, even schools can run efficiently.

Support At Home

Normally, working parents do not have ample time to participate in school programs, but this does not imply that they can stay away from their child’s education. Parents can encourage the kids to finish off their home work at the right time. Spending valuable time with kids and learning to their problems is a must. The responses given by parents have a great impact on the children.

When teachers visit students’ homes, the intention is to encourage parents’ involvement in their children’s education. By doing so, they also increase the chances of the students faring much better.

Many parents do not find the time to visit their children’s school. This leads to little or no interaction with the teachers. In some unusual cases, teachers make the effort of visiting the students’ home to meet the parents.

Why Home Visits are Beneficial

Home visits by teachers encourage the involvement of parents in their children’s school activities. They are better able to understand how their child is progressing. These visits also induce a better relationship between the teacher and the parents, resulting in coordinated efforts at improving the children’s progress in school.

How Teachers Can Carry Out Home Visits

Teacher should make a schedule for visiting students’ homes twice in a year. While the teacher plans the visit, it should be on the convenience of the parents that the day and date is fixed. The teacher should try and spend about an hour with the parents, and ensure the meeting results in productive conversation regarding the concerned students’ academic progress, information about the events in school regarding this student and suggestions for any improvement.

Support from School Authorities for Home Visits

Teachers can receive support from the school authorities to carry out these home visits to meet parents. By reducing the number of meetings after school hours, they can allow more free time to teachers to visit students’ homes. They can also provide a stipend or conveyance allowance to the teachers for fuel. Female teachers can be made to pair up to make visits, so that their safety is ensured.

Conclusion

Home visits by teachers are not conventional methods of improving students’ progress or enhancing parents’ involvement. However, when teachers take such initiatives, they should be supported by the school authorities.

Though we live in the twenty-first century, it is still a common occurrence for girls to feel unsafe at school. Despite schools being havens of learning, they can be places where girls get sexually exploited and harassed.

Violence against the Girl Child

Girls are exploited around the world in their homes, societies, places of work as well as of schools. Adolescent girls are more susceptible to sexual harassment in many parts of the globe. A large percentage of girl students admit to being touched in a sexual way or without their permission by either their teachers or male schoolmates.

The surprising aspect of this is that hardly anywhere is such treatment against girls seriously revolted against. On the other hand, it is the girl who is blamed for encouraging boys, rather than the issue being addressed in a correct manner.

Studies on Violence against Girls at School

A Human Rights Watch Report of 2001 states that a large number of cases of sexual harassment of girls by their teachers or fellow students go unreported. Moreover, girls belonging to minority communities tend to be more vulnerable to sexual harassment at school.

An article on South African school girls and their vulnerability to sexual harassment at school that discusses the issue in detail, states that many school girls under the age of fifteen have been made to have sex without their permission. Legally, in South Africa, male teachers have been discouraged, and if found guilty of such misconduct, they should be discharged from service. This has, however, not been put into practice.

Conclusion

Violence against girls, especially in the environment of schools, should be completely unacceptable. It becomes the responsibility of the school authorities to ensure the safety of girl students, and hat harsh penalty needs to be given to guilty teachers or schoolboys.

Many people go to college right after graduating from high school but never make it to their college graduation. Unfortunately, leaving college prematurely isn’t that uncommon. Several things contribute to the college dropout rate including: immaturity, failing grades, unforeseen circumstances and just not knowing what to do in life. It doesn’t matter why you didn’t complete college the first time because, if you have the drive and determination, you can still get your degree with the help of traditional and online colleges alike. However, going back to college will affect your schedule.

Going to college isn’t all fun and games. You need to take it serious and make sure you are on time and don’t skip any of your classes. This means that you will need to have the discipline to create, and stick to, a schedule. Your schedule needs to allow you plenty of time to attend your classes, get homework done and study. However, this can be difficult if you are a single parent and/or have a full-time job.

For those of you who are single parents and/or have full-time jobs, the flexibility of earning your degree online may be the best option. Online courses such as those found at educationforadults.com will provide you with a more flexible schedule than a traditional college will, which will make it easier for you to fit everything into your already busy days. However, this doesn’t mean that you won’t have to find extra time for homework and studying, it just means that you won’t be quite as limited as you would be if you were going back to college the “traditional” way. Going back to college is one of the best decisions you can make, but you need to make sure you are prepared to deal with the new time struggles it will bring to your daily schedule.
